For beginners or those revisiting the basics. Learn basic poses, optimal alignment, breathing techniques (pranayama), and relaxation.
Movement and breath linked together in a more vigorous vinyasa practice using sun salutations to transition between poses. Designed for those with some experience.
Yoga for Osteoporosis
In addition to providing stress reduction and a mild workout, yoga can also be an effective treatment for osteoporosis, either on its own or supplemented by other treatments. Research has shown that yoga can prevent or slow — and in some cases even reverse — the process of bone loss.
These classes are structured around Dr. Loren Fishman’s research and book, Yoga for Osteoporosis. We offer three classes a week — one for increasing bone density, one for increasing balance, and one for increasing strength.
Three modifications for each pose will be taught — Prevention, Osteopenia, and Osteoporosis. Lots of support is provided to ensure that you are safe in the practice.
Raja Yoga, the royal path, refers to the eight limbed path of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. These classes will incorporate these ancient teachings into our practice. We will study together texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, etc. and incorporate our study into our asana and pranayama practice.
The practice of Raja Yoga helps us still the mind and expand our spiritual awareness. This class assumes an existing yoga practice and allows students to go inside and refine their intentions and awareness.
